2014 Cake Baking Contest

2013 Cake Baking Contest

cake from 2012 contest Photo by Cathy ThogmortonRalph Woodward, Jr., and Tom Yancy served as judges for the annual Fayette Festival of the Arts Cake Contest.  Cakes were judged on the basis of presentation, texture and taste according to Dee Woodward who coordinates this event.  Cash prizes totaling $135 were awarded in two divisions:  Adult and Youth.  The cakes were auctioned immediately following the judging - about 11:45 a.m. - by auctioneer Charlie Joe Flaspohler.  The proceeds of the auction went to the Fayette Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.  Members of the Glasgow Study Club presented a Fashion Show (see below) during the auction.

J. Y. Miller was Master of Ceremonies for the Fashion Show sponsored by the women of the Glasgow Study Club.  He ws assisted by Jim Steele.  The women were escorted by Mason Gebhardt.

Among those Study Club members participating in the show were Helen Ancell, Lois Brucks, Nettie Cherrington, Melody Daily, Carol Fuemmeler, Martha Gebhardt, Eileen Haskamp, Lois Johnston, Ruth Jones, Sandy Marshall, Gloria Maupin, Joanne Meyer, Mary Elsie Miller, Carol Monnig, Carolyn Monnig, Natalie Monnig, Mary Jo Reich, and Kitty Schewe.

Cake Baking Contest 2012

cake from clip artPaul Pepper and James Mouser served as judges for the 2012 Cake Baking Contest.  Cakes were judged on presentation, texture and taste.  According to Dee Woodward who coordinated this event, the cakes were auctioned following the judging and the proceeds ($750) went  to the Fayette Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.

Cake Baking Contest - 2011

The Third Annual Festival of the Arts saw a return of the art of cake baking and decorating.  Cakes were judged on presentation, texture and taste.  Judges were KMIZ channel 17’s morning news anchor, Lauren Gores ;  morning  weather  caster,  Neville Miller;  and  Fayette’s well known art teacher, Ann Schafer.
